The knee is one of the most frequently injured joints in the body. Tremendous advancements have been made in the understanding and treatment alternatives available to restore the knee to normal function. Many of those new techniques involve minimally invasive arthroscopic methods, which avoid damage to normal tissues. An arthroscope is a lighted instrument with a lens, which permits all aspects of the knee to accessed, evaluated through very tiny incisions. With small, specialized instruments, repair or reconstruction can be performed accurately and effectively. Currently, most knee procedures are performed on an outpatient basis.
